Neo4j-desktop won't start on Linux Mint Rosa (ubuntu 14.04)

I tried to run neo4j-desktop-offline-1.1.15-x86_64.AppImage on Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS).

Got error:
/tmp/.mount_neo4j-KjvIIO/neo4j-desktop: relocation error: /tmp/.org.chromium.Chromium.pZdQh4: symbol _ZNSt7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEE9_M_createERmm, version GLIBCXX_3.4.21 not defined in file libstdc++.so.6 with link time reference

It seems a problem with signal-desktop 1.15.0 for several versions of ubuntu (mine included). Local fixes provided there seem complicated and risky.

Looking for solution / workaround. Comments and suggestions wellcome!
