Welcome to the graph! Your experience will serve you well in learning about graphs. There are a few mental models that people adopt which may help. For example, one way to think about relationships is that they're formalized join tables. And labels are like tables except that a record can "belong" to more than one table.
Of course, both of those are not quite right but they're a reasonable way to adapt relational thinking.
